10 Things about Downton Abbey Season 3

If you have not watched all of Downton Abbey Season 3.. don't read my post today.

SPOILER ALERT!

I just want to share 10 things I have felt overall with Season 3.

-1-

I can't believe they killed off 2 main characters in one Season.
I was so, so sad about Sybil.. but so, so mad about Matthew.

It did help a little to read that Matthew wanted out of the show.
Then.. I am not so Angry at the writers.

-2-

You all know that I loathe Thomas.  Yes.. I do.

This season was the first that I actually felt pity for him.

What can I say?  I felt compassion for him.

When he was crying over lady Sybil.. I wanted to hug him too.  I know.. crazy.

But.. the story line with James had me uncomfortable all the way through.

And.. um.. I couldn't believe that he would be in the position he was with all of the crimes he committed through the whole show.

Now he is in a position over Bates?  Unbelievable!

I thought they were trying to be historical here?

Pretty sure that would have NEVER happened.

My compassionate heart wanted him to have a reference.. or at the very least a lowly job.. but to keep him on and in such a high position?  I am outraged.  Yes.  Outraged over a fake show.

-3-

Mrs Crawley remains one of my favorite characters.  I know she bugs many people.. but I love that she is true to herself and will go head to head with anyone including Violet.
She is compassionate.. logical.. and doesn't let her "class " affect her.

The only thing that bugged me with her during Season 3 -- was her interaction with Dr. Clarkson.  I wish they would have gotten together/married!!

I feel for her.. and wonder what Season 4 will bring with her -- with Matthew's death.

-4-

 I couldn't stand Carson in Season 3.
One of my least favorite characters of the Season.

 The end.

-5-

After Sybil died.. I was grateful for a "mad and sad" break with a few episodes of happy and healing...so I could enjoy myself in the season for a little bit.

I enjoyed the beautiful lines about grief and loss.  ~ And thank you to the writers for giving me some " Happy times with Matthew and Mary."  I needed that.

-6-

Lady Violet was my absolute favorite this Season.  She for sure gets the best lines.

-7-

The story line with Rose was boring to me.  The Highland story.... *YAWN*
I have nothing against Scotland.  My 3rd great Grandpa was from there.

I just wanted them back at Downton.

Can't Rose stay somewhere else please??

-8-

I am bugged about how long they are drawing out Edith's "single state."

And do the writers not have any better ideas than to rip off Jane Eyre?

When her boss said his wife was insane and in an institution.. I almost threw up in my mouth.

Who am I supposed to feel bad for more?  He or Edith???

-9-

 Thank you for freeing Bates.

The story line was WAY too long.

-10-

The moment with Matthew, Mary and the baby after it's birth.. was the most beautiful, amazing and best written and best part of all of Season 3.

The words that Matthew  used to express himself for the Love of his son -- and for his wife were amazing.  I finally felt happy for them.

~ And then my happiness went down the toilet when I saw him happily driving in his car.. and was not paying any attention.

I knew what was coming.

And I I knew they killed him off..and there was no coming back because he had " Dead Eyes."

I can't believe all of my friends that watched this.. had kept it a secret.

It was the only thing not spoiled for me about the Season.. and I was grateful.  I think.

Overall... this Season is not one that I will care to re-watch often.

It's too sad.. and stirs alot of frustration and sadness/madness in me.

Another frustration I have.

Why not air the show for the whole world at the same time?

Why must the US see this last?

I'm sure it has something to do with money or politics.

I was pretty bugged at how much was spoiled in the US via people and pictures on the Internet.

In a perfect world.. we all see the fake show that we love TOGETHER.

That's my feelings.

Just Sayin.

Today I am Grateful for:

Season 1 of Downton Abbey.
The best costumes.. and good medicine to see after drowning in Season 3.

My dear friend Tauna who sent me her finest homemade chocolates.. so I could drown my Downton woes in chocolaty goodness.

A busy week

44 days left until Spring!

Friends that stopped by this weekend.
 I needed it.  Thank you!

I agree with all your thoughts. I also didn't care for Carson. I always wonder if they hate their character as much as we do. Thanks again for letting me borrow your DVD.

All I can say is that I really disliked season three. I just kept saying to myself "a man totally wrote this." Gave a bad taste in my mouth for season 4. Grrrr!

I know, this season sure was a downer! I was one of the bad ones who watched it early online. I thought I would rewatch it when it aired on TV, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. But I love Lady Crawley as well! I'm always cheering her on. :)

Ya, it was truly a downer.
I hope they come up with something to revive the show.
I need the love story.
Sappy I know.

I hate the judgment by the men especially towards the maid that had the baby. Where is the accountability to the men and why the severe judgment. Did she do all this sinning by herself? They want to brush off their sins and failures and yet they arrogantly judge anything the women do wrong as if they had committed an unforgivable sin. Please do not get me wrong, I love the show, but I hate how everyone judges each other so harshly and yet feel a need to brush off their own wrong doings as if they were understandable and a small mistake. (i.e., losing money, mismanaging the estate, kiss the maid, and most likely killing his own daughter. ......you know who I mean).

I agree with everything! Except I can't stand Mrs. Crawley. She bugs. Since they knew Matthew was leaving the show, why didn't they make the Christmas special have Mary have the baby early on in the episode and then show them enjoying the baby for a year or so before they kill him? Instead they have them traipsing around Scotland doing nothing for a full episode. Grrr. Can there be no happiness ever? It is annoying. I will repeat my statement, I want to punch season 3 in the face! Haha

I guess I haven't seen the whole series.. only 8 episodes. My ending was all three men in white arms around each other for the good of Downton and after saving Thomas. Big spoiler is I didn't know about the baby or Matthews death. Oh well. My DVD should come this week ... I can't wait to watch ALL of it.

I have been thinking about buying DA on dvd, but I will have to reconsider LOL. I am sorry that the 3rd season is such a let down(town).
Take care,
Marianne.

Matthew wanted out. That makes me feel a little better, although I loved the last couple episodes where he and Mary were like what normal newlyweeds are like! Thomas I agree I was drawn to him. Didn't care for the seen with Jimmy but like that maybe they'll be friends. Rose is a brat and yep the last episode was so long and drawn out. BUT the last scene with Matthew Mary and the baby was very tender! Thanks for letting me borrow them, I'm giving your dvd to Adrianne!
