A Fall Day to Play...

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day.

I was so grateful it was so pretty.. as it lifted my spirits so much -- to feel the warm temperatures.. see the sun..and play outside for a while.

I can't believe how much I have loved this late summer weather -- in November.

Climbing up the side of our hill.. this is our view.

We live in a beautiful area surrounded by lots of large trees.

Leaves are falling everywhere.

Christian and Mary were playing all around out back.. and Chad decided to mow the lawn before the big snow storm that is due this weekend.

I was just enjoying watching everyone play.

~ All of the sudden.. we heard the weirdest noise coming from our tree out back.

It sounded like a weird bird screeching in distress.

I was sure one of my Cats was teasing him.

-- It became so loud and persistent...and annoying.....the kids and I decided to head into the "Gully" behind our house and check out what all of the fuss was about.

Sure enough.. the cat was up in the tree.. but this was no bird!

 It was a squirrel!

The first squirrel I have ever seen in back of our house.

I was shocked.  I have seen deer, skunks and Foxes.. but no other creatures.

I called everyone to come and see it.

It was frantic.

It was running all over the branches yelling/swearing at us.. and hoping we all would leave.
I have never heard one little squirrel make so much noise.

We all ( including my Cat Mousers ) sat and watched it go crazy.. for a good 20 minutes.

Ya.. we are easily entertained.

After about 20 minutes.. the squirrel was tired of waiting for us to leave.. so he took matters into his own paws.. and started jumping.

See those little twig branches across from to where he is at?

He totally jumped at them and made it.

He was swinging on twigs.

Christian and I watched him jump... and started laughing so hard.

We had ourselves a flying squirrel!!!!

We named him " Tarzan" because he was jumping so quickly.. the twigs looked like vines he was swinging/leaping on.

Mousers watched each movement with hope and desire.  lol!

After about 1/2 an hour.. mousers decided that "Tarzan" the squirrel wasn't worth the effort... and came back down to us to be petted and loved by us.

 Tarzan's life was "spared" today.

Cutest Mary watching all of the squirrel excitement

The kids love to play and explore "in the woods" out in the back of our house.. and I too love that open space to explore and imagine in -- so very much!

Christian headed back home.

There are always treasures ( junk ) to find out in the woods.

I love where I live.

It is far from perfect.. but it is cozy.. beautiful.. and fun.

We cleaned up LOADS of leaves.. and I know after the storm.. their will be LOADS more!

Christian and Chad built this birdhouse -- to help Christian along the way of earning his wolf.

Christian loves to go out and see if a bird has made his home there.. every day.

Everyday.. the kids have been outside.. enjoying the leaves.. and the warm temperatures.

I am grateful.

Today I am Grateful for:

A new day and a new attitude.  Thank you-- for all of your kind words to my poopy mood yesterday.

A relaxed and restful nights sleep.

The opportunity to help with the kids school Book Fair again tonight.
Since Mary is now in school.. I have been able to volunteer a lot -- helping the teachers and the PTA.

Everything picked is painted and ready for consignment.  Yay!

No more political ads!!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!!

It looks like a really pretty area where you live. That is so funny about the squirrel! We had tons of them back East but there aren't many where we live here in Iowa. I kind of miss them!

We are living in a big city. We have no deer, no fox an no skunks, but we have a lot of squirrels - brown and black one. As I cleaned my back yard some days ago, I found some hidden walnuts.....

Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.

I LOVE that last picture you took. Excellent.
I sooo love fall. Ours is loooong gone. We had snow storm ALL day, but there was no wind, so it had it's own special beauty.
That must have been very entertaining indeed watching and listening to your squirrel.
Did you read on my facebook page about the 30 ELK that crossed our field. IT WAS INCREDIBLE. I never get tired of nature.

It looks like pure perfectness in your neck of the woods. We don't have squirrels here, but in Boise they are everywhere. I must say...I am really glad they don't live here. However, the rockchucks make up for them.
So glad you had such a great day. It rained here a lot of the day. We need it so bad but tomorrow the snow comes. At least a little.
sending hugs...

Yesterday was indeed a nice day - wind and all. In fact, I kind of liked the wind - it was different and made the air smell different.

That poor squirrel!
