I am soooooooooooo tired of hearing that Pinterest is Evil.
Or... Pinterest is the Devil.
Or.... stay away!!! It's Super addicting.
When I joined.... I had heard all of these things... and I still hear them on a daily basis.
I think that it's super funny that I have never heard anyone say:
"Stay away from iphone's... or games... or apps... because those are addicting... and those are the Devil."
"Stay away from iphone's... or games... or apps... because those are addicting... and those are the Devil."
I see more addiction with phones and gaming than anything with the net.
Angry birds was the top played game for the past 2 years. Just Saying.
No one has ever been at my house... and just HAD to get on the Internet to see what is on Pinterest... but I will tell you.. I have had many a friends and family on their phones playing Angry Birds at my home.
When it boils down to it... it comes to everything in moderation... and Self Control.
Anything in life can be addicting.. and we have to use caution in all things.
I have a set time for blogging each day... and Facebook and Pinterest are just "fillers" when I need a minute to sit and relax throughout the day.
I use Facebook ONLY to see what is happening with friends and family daily.. and that is where I generally hear news.. since I don't watch it on a daily basis.
I don't play games on Facebook.. and I feel I use my time on the net wisely... so I just don't get all of the bad "talk" of Pinterest.
The most amount of time I ever have spent on Pinterest was 2 1/2 hours... and it was when I was on --setting up my boards... and pinning for the first time.
7 Reasons I LOVE Pinterest.
(1)
You get to create boards of things that pertain to you and your likings.
This is so fun to me... as I am unique... and like such a variety of things.
Every time I get on each day... I look at my boards.. and they make me happy.
They are filled with pictures I adore...hopes and dreams for my home... and quotes that lift me up. It's a happy place. My own space.
(2)
It's "browsing" blogs/websites in quick time.
Ideas, quotes, recipes and pictures show up on the screen like this.. and I can quickly scan and see things that are interesting to me.
(3)
It's Organized!
~ And you know how much I LOVE organization!
The OCD in me feels like it's in Disneyland with "putting things in Order" of boards, pinning.. and placement. I love this much! Pinning is easy.. functional and simple!
( If I can figure it out without help from Chad.. it's good )
(4)
The "Search" button.
Oh how I adore this.
I can search " Shabby chic" and I get LOADS of blog/website pictures of things I would love.
I have met friends through Pinterest now-- that share some of the same loves in Victorian and shabby chic things.. and it is so much fun!
I have also "Searched" for recipes... and party ideas.
I think it's a great time-saver!
(5)
It's a clutter free place.
We have only remodeled one room in our home. ( The bathroom. )
Everything else still needs a face lift one day.. and the old days finding pretty rooms or garden ideas in magazines ( ripping out and saving a magazine page ) that I liked are now over.
I have beautiful rooms, future organization and decorating ideas all on my page and there isn't extra "paper clutter."
Woot!
(6)
It's a great Recipe hub.
One of the ladies I follow on Pinterest has a board for "Recipes I want to try" and "Recipes I have made." After she tries a recipe.. she reviews it in the comment area.. and it is very helpful to me -- if it's worth pinning or not.
If you have recipes that YOU have made that you are pinning.. it helps so much to have a little review like: "I made this and it is yummy. -- I would make it again." this helps me so much to know it is good.. and pinning worthy.
I am grateful when my friends comment on my recipe posts and tell me it was good.
I trust you!!
Also.. if I try a recipe.. and it wasn't loved by our family.. I can just delete it from the board!
Simple!
(7)
Following Friends.
I LOVE this. Even if I don't pin or adore the same things my friends do.. I find joy in seeing what they love and find worth pinning. I feel inspired by many of their quotes and pictures.
♥♥♥
While I do profess my love for Pinterest.. there is also the bad part of it.
Reasons Pinterest can be frustrating for me
.
(1)
I tend to only follow my friends on the site... rather that just looking at the "Everything" and "Popular" boards... because I have come across a few pornographic pictures.
As long as I stick to following my friends boards... I am usually safe.
(2)
When you join Pinterest.. they ask that you are always kind.
I believe in being kind.. really I do.. but I have never been so frustrated before... as to sometimes seeing friends "pinning" organizational stuff that is beyond not functional.
I want to comment and say something so bad. I want to give them warnings.. or even explain why it isn't good use of space or functional..but I can't. I have to look away.
No matter how I approach it-- I would probably make them feel bad.. and the person who wrote it on their blog or website.
It's sooo frustrating to me. -- And it's hard to ignore it.. but I have to.
Let me just say for the record... that just because it's on Pinterest... doesn't mean it's good.
Anyone can blog. Anyone can post a recipe.

I see too much of the same things pinned over and over and over.
And I haven't even been on their for a really long time.
There are over a million websites out there. I am surprised at how much I see over and over and over again.
I still have some learning to do with Pinterest.
I have no idea how to "pin" on websites unless they have a Pinterest logo and etc.
But I am learning.
♥♥♥
If you don't have a Pinterest account.. don't be afraid of it.
It's good stuff.
And it really isn't Evil.
If we are not friends on Pinterest.. and you have an account.. find me!
I want to follow you!
Today I am Grateful for:
Hope and Faith when their is soo much gloom and sadness this week.
A new haircut and color
Healthier Eating
Taxes are finished
My Family and Friends.

Oh I have never heard that happy to say.I do hear how fabulous and how much you can learn on Pinterest though.I enjoy Pinterest but like anything you just have to limit yourself. We do joke around and say yep I have a problem and it's called Pinterest also Blogs Lol
I am happy so tell you it's o.k Pinterest is Fabulous! Thanks for sharing~Cheers Kim
I really like it, but I don't spend that much time on it. I pin mainly what I find on the internet, for my own use. Like pics of bathroom. links to recipes and crafts.
Take care,
Marianne.
Hi Ann, sorry I haven't made it up to now to write you a letter. Daily life keeps me busy, but I am thinking of you nearly every day - keep your family pic on the pinboard in my hallway :-) I love pinterest as well. It is a great and even time-saving way to find diy instructions, recipes and a lot more. I will stick to it - no matter what other people say. Have a nice day, as I will go to bed soon. XOXO, Kerstin
I don't even know what pintrest is! LOL. I always see it on fb, someone "pinnned" something. But I don't get it. Maybe one day I'll make you show me. And I'm with you 100% on the video game addiction thing. Grrr.
I've been hesitant to join pinterest because I wasn't really sure of the point at first (and thought I probably would get addicted). But more and more I'm thinking it's a good idea. I'm making some big changes in my life this year and Pinterest might help with some new and different ideas. Plus I like the organizing part too. It seems fun!
I learn something new each day!
I had never heard if Pinterest, but it seems an intersting website though I do see how these things can become addictive if we let them, and also (on sites like this and Facebook) how we are happily providing alsorts of information about ourselves for targeted web marketing in the future.
It was fun to look at, so I'll probably go back to look at it again.
I have never heard Pinterest vilified, but I don't doubt that there are people out there who do that.
LOL word verification "dumbrain"
I am sure that the age old counsel of "Moderation in ALL Things" applies to all of technology. I have found many wonderful ideas on Pinterest. I don't have time to surf the web, so with the little time that I do, I am more than happy to share it with others. And I am glad that others share what they have found with me :).
Too Funny! This is the 2nd post I've seen today about Pinterest!
I must admit I love to pin! I use my boards to keep my thoughts organized about the projects we seem to always be working on. I too have heard negativity about the site but I believe anything that takes time away from what we are supposed to be doing is unhealthy and not His will.
I hope that people will give it a try though, I so much enjoy pinning pretty things as opposed to reading the day to day happenings of people I sometimes barely know.
Have a blessed evening
Donna
Great post! I'm doing a similar post soon...w/ a little tutorial (I hope).
Love your idea of commenting on recipes I've tried. We just tried one and didn't really like it so much.
Feel free to tell me if I pin an unreasonable organization idea~ in fact, I'd love it if you did tell me! :)
On your Pinterest account, under the "About" tab, there is a "Pin It" button. You have to add that to your tool bar (there are instructions there). Then it shows up in your tool bar & you can automatically pin things from blogs & websites that don't have the "pin it" function...Makes pinning so easy!!!
You need not defend to me!
I absolutely adore Pinterest!!!!!
I have actually never heard anyone say anything negative about Pinterest and I hope I never do.
P.S. Will you e-mail me your Pinterest I haven't visited you.
You gave me more information on Pinterest than anyone else...just saying. I had no idea it was so involved. I thought it was just a craft site.
I gave up Facebook a year ago and really don't miss it. The only computer thing I do is blog but now you gave me a reason to check out Pinterest.
Thanks.
I have looked at pinterest , pretty much for a few minutes every day. BUT I don't know how to "pin" either, and I don't know how to set up a "board??" for myself.
It all seems to be beyond me.
There sure are a lot of ideas out there.
and it is totally as you say, things become bad when we LET THEM TAKE OVER our lives. Balance, balance, balance.
I think iphones and the like are WAY more addictive...It is like these items have become an appendage.
LOVE Pinterest. I have tried many recipes that I have loved, found ideas for Primary, FHE, and fun crafts for the kids. I love the organizational part too. :) I have the "comments" issue too. I don't want to post anything negative, so I will comment if a recipe is good, but if it's gross I just delete it though what I want to do is shout from the hills "DON'T MAKE THIS, IT'S GROSS!". It took me a while to figure out how to "pin" something from the web too, but when you sign up it makes you load it on your computer, so you DO have the option somewhere. It probably depends on what kind of browser you use, but your option to pin something should be in the same place as your bookmarking option. I use Google Chrome so mine is in the "tools". Happy Pinning!
As you know I joined Pinterest last week and was wary of doing so because I was worried it would be one more thing to take up my time. But it hasn't been that way and I love it for all of the reasons you gave. I like how organized, clean, and simple the site is. I love the ideas it gives me and the vision it gives me. It's so much fun! And you're right, not everything on there is good or useful. You have to use good judgment!
I must be in the dark because I have never heard anyone say anything negative about pinterest ever!
I just signed up for Pinterest, but haven't had time to look around and start pinning. If you follow me, you will surely be disappointed.
Hey, I can't find your email for some reason. Will you email me at newtonloans@gmail.com?
I love Pinterest. My favorite board is my Crochet board. I have a friend in Washington that crochets as well and we share patterns and ideas back and forth. It has bridged the distance gap and we can share our crafts and ideas.
Hello Ann Marie!First I have to tell you I started laughing when you spoke about things being of the devil. It brought me back to memories of my Grandma who is originally from Birmingham Alabama. She would say that rock n roll is of the devil! Hillarious.
Next I am guilty of being a person that warns others before joining Pinterest that it is addicting. But, I compare it to Facebook. Like Facebook can take up a lot of time if you let it.
But as I was just talking to my VT companion a few days ago. We said we will get on the Pinterest website and start pinning and next thing you know, 2 hours have gone by. I am very guilty of that. So as with many things in my life, I have to learn a limit. Ya know?
That being said, ironically I totally agree that Pinterest can be the biggest time saver and helper. A lot of times when I need a quick meal idea, I go directly to Pinterest. I am a visual learner. So I work best with learning to cook a new recipe if I see a step by step with picture example.
And last, I feel like Pinterest has helped me be a better stay at home Momma. Ideas on how to make life not feel so overwhelming. Ideas for the kids to get away from the Wii and TV. Ideas that remind me of how I always wanted to raise my kids to be outdoor loving kids. I love it so much. :)
PS I too have come across some pornographic pics. So I stay within my friends pinning areas. And I think this is a reason you see multiple pins. Friends tend to like similar stuff. Yet, we come across the ideas at different times. :) That is why I am guessing I see things re-posted over and over again. :)
I haven't checked out Pinterest because I'm already having trouble making time to keep up with my favorite blogs...don't want to add anything else to the limited internet sessions!
