Halloween Fun 2009

After a very hard week.. the weekend was truly a Happy one.
( for the most part )
Monday we decided to carve pumpkins for Family Home evening.
This is the first year Tenney would actually touch the pumpkin guts.
Mary Caroline and Christian had no problem.

After they were carved.. we put them out on the deck.
Left to right in order of Pumpkins..
Christians.. Mary Caroline's and Tenney's..
Tuesday Morning.. we woke up to this.
Crazy Utah weather.

We had our usual fun on Thursday at Gardner Village seeing the Witches.
The kids decided they wanted to be funny this year.. so every picture is a silly one.
We had fun looking around and then going to the bakery for a cookie...... or four.

I saw a fun idea on Sondra's blog for breakfast.. and wanted to make something Halloweenie for the kids. We did Ghost pancakes.. and used chocolate chips for the eyes. The kids LOVED the look of it .. but not so hip on the chocolate chips.
I know... my kids are weird..

(L to R )Serina, Odessa, Tenney, Christian, Jacob, James, McKenna, Mary Caroline and Emma.
Friday morning the drama began. We went to get the kids in the costumes.. and Tenney's costume was no where to be found. She was in tears.. and we all searched high and low and in between for this BRAND NEW Pirate costume. I was frustrated.. because I am ORGANIZED! This is why!!! I don't want to LOOK for things! After all of the searching.. and tears.. we decided to "put together" a quick one. Tenney and her friend Ireland were going to be dressed the same.. so I called my friend Morgan and borrowed the hat for the afternoon..
Tenney was happy.. Mom was frustrated.. but off we went!
We had fun visiting Grandma W's work on Friday. We had lunch with all of the cousins.. and then went trick or treating there. Mary Caroline thought she was in HEAVEN!
Why were people giving her lots of candy everywhere she went??
This is GREAT!
Well... no one... and I mean no one... could touch that bag the rest of the day.
L to R - Christian, Tenney, Amelia ( holding Mary ), Cody, Brandon ( holding Emma ) Colton.
Friday night was fun as we celebrated at Grandma H's house with all of the cousins!
We decorated sugar cookies.. ( which was Ann LOVE ) and then we did a few activities with the kids....
I saw this cute idea on Monica's blog.
These little ghosts were soooo easy.. and the kids just kept wanting to do more. I would for sure do this again. There is no mess.. and it's quick.

Next...
I gave all of the kids 2 small play dough's, and told them they had to create something spooky or
" Halloweenish " with it.

They all did such a good job. Even some of the adults had fun with it. I even "created".
I am the proud owner of the witch hat. :)

The kids ended the night with "Halloween Bingo " and Aunt Tania made them all a goodies sack.
Again.. Mary Caroline was in *Bliss*.
Saturday night ... before trick or treating. Tenney has a hat. Yay!
Tenney the pirate.... Christian the Grim Reaper.... ( of course he wanted to be SCARY this year ) and Mary Caroline aka - the Halloween candy hoarder -was cute little Tinkerbell.
L to R - Ireland,( in the cute costume Tenney was supposed to be wearing..) Tenney, Reagan and Christian ( there are 2 reapers there ) and little Mary C.
Of course the kids had fun trick or treating with the neighbors!
Morgan and Zach were kind enough to take the kids with them.. and I stayed home to pass out the treats.. and study for my church lesson the next day! I know.. sounds like a boring night.. but really.. it was all fun!
~ No trials and traumas.. and I ended the night watching an old movie with Chad.
(♥ My bliss ♥)
With every Halloween there has to be some tricks right???
-TRICKS-
*Wondering... were that pirate costume is. I hope I don't lay in bed at night -- wondering where it could possibly be. That OCD is kicking in...
* As I sorted through the kids candy.. I found some weird stuff including Valentine Candy.
Would you keep that?? I didn't.
*Aunt Tania came and gave the whole family flu shots ( not swine yet ) 4 hours before trick or treating.. Am I a mean mom or what??
* 1/2 of my trick or treaters were over the age of 16! I even had college students. I thought that was insane! But.. I smiled and nicely gave them some loot.
I don't want them to come back and egg the witchy ladies house!
Am I wrong??? What is too OLD to trick or treat???
PS:
*Grateful for our secret friend who gave us Halloween goodies and helped make our Halloween so fun! Who would have thought that a woopie cushion could bring hours of giggles from the kids.. and CHAD!
*Grateful for Janet for teaching me about the parent/candy tax.
I checked it all and had to make sure some of the snickers and Almond Joys were safe and non poisonous!
YEP!!!

So where is the pirate costume? Have you found it yet? That would drive me nuts. The kids all looked great- the dressing up is my favorite part of Halloween.

Your kids are adorable!
(I sorry Christian -some of your kids are adorable and some is really really scary....)
We had so much fun this morning learning about your Halloween
-thank you for sharing!

And about the missing costume-I hear you!
We have a Halloween DVD with fun songs and dances,
that we have watched like 100 times this week and I was gonna put on it when the guests arrived Saturday night
-and it's just -gone.
I mean really really GONE.
And it drives me insane to the point I could not stop looking ,and almost did not got the food ready because I KNOW it's there.
I do not loose things and this stupid.... thing,is no where to be found.
We used something else to dance to and had so much fun ,BUT I am still ,in secret, looking.
I'll let you know if i find your costume....
Love,Emma

It looks like you have a fantastic Halloween. I think it is cute about Mary and her candy bag. Those first years when they are aware of life - but don't know why they get all that candy is a hoot!

It made me laugh that they didn't like the chocolate chips in their pancakes... OK, Brady is normal - ha ha ha ha...

I LOVE the ghosts cups.. That is clever. I need to print off all these wonderful ideas and put them in a binder. The blogging works sure makes life fun and I love getting all these cute / inexpensive ways to celebrate the holiday.

Snow.... of course Utah has snow... It's just soooo funny to see it all over your cute pumpkins. I'm glad you had a wonderful holiday and are stocked up on Halloween candy.... Free food storage ;-D (It's always great to have a storage of stress food along with healthy)...

I love halloween!!

Your kids are so dang cute. Looks like alot of fun.

I had really old treat o treater's this year too. I don't care how old they are if they went to the trouble of a costume, but just to ask for candy and no costume no way!!!

Sorry I missed you the other day at the village looks like you guys had fun!! Have you had your hair done yet?

I am simply boggled that anything could get lost at your house. That is just impossible! I know how you feel though. I have lost all of our Christmas CD's and still can't find them. I did find one, and was excited! Way to improv on the costume!! I thought it was WAY cute! Man, you guys had a very busy weekend! Let me know about the apples! Tonight is my only free night all week! Let me know! -Suzanne

Sounds like so much fun! I love the age when they don't understand why people are giving them candy but don't want it to stop!! It is so fun!

Looks like you had a great Halloween! And NO I wouldn't save the Valentine candy! Ick!

Cute story and it sounds like everyone was successful with getting enough candy.

We only hand 20 kids come to our door. I would have appreciated the teenagers because that is basically what we have left in our area. I would rather them be trick or treating than some of the other things teens do now on Halloween.

Good luck on finding the costume. I lose things constantly and never seem to find them. It's an age thing with me.

Cute costumes! I never think you are too old to Trick or Treat :) I went even in college to get some free candy. Back then I was desperate since we were all so poor! I love Halloween but the candy can only last for a day!

What fun Halloween you had - so many activities! The kids all look so cute.
I would have been nuts wondering what happened to Tenney's costume -in fact, right now I am sitting here wondering if you have found it yet, where was it, will you ever find it! I will worry for you OK - now you can sleep :D

Did you know that some people save candy from all other holidays even the Halloween before and give it out? Sick! I know a few people who do this. That is what I thought of when you mentioned Valentine candy.
I too check it all out and, of course, take the parent tax (usually Almond Joy - hee hee).

I think 13 is the oldest I let my kids go. Taylor was 14 this year and I did not let him. All of his friends went and bless his heart - he walked around with them but did not trick or treat once. He's a good boy.
I really don't like it when older kids - especially 16 and older trick or treat.

The ghost pancakes are so cute. If they don't like chocolate chips you can use blueberries for the eyes :D

Glad things are looking up - Happy November :D

I'm going to wonder where Tenney's costume is! Sounds like a fun but busy time for all of you!
I had my kids stop trick-or-treating at the age of 12...I know.. I'm a mean one!
Halloween is over and here comes Thanksgiving! The time is going to fly!

Happy Halloween! Looks like you guys had a great time, and what a good mom you are to put together all those activities for the kids. P.S. The kittens came in the mail yesterday, so now all that is back-ordered is the mini doll. Yay! Call me soon! Oh, and I had a dream about the Disney pin your dad is giving me...I need to come see them! My friend Marie is so jealous! he he...

You are SO funny Ann. I have suffered that same trauma myself as I try to be organized, but sometimes things like that happens and you find the item AFTER the event.

SO much for your kids. I love the joy of little kids and watching them "hoard" their goodies.

Adorable costumes that is fun that your kids got to go to grandmas work and go trick or treating. I can't believe how many fun activities you did with your family. FUN memories for your kids.

And best of all I'm excited you got your "Bliss" by getting time for just you and Chad.

I think Tenney's costume turned out great. She looked like a real pirate.

There were a lot of Tinkerbells in your family. Too cute!

I love the first picture. Tenney looks so grossed out and Mary looks so pleased. Too cute! I love your kids!

I am glad it turned out okay for you and that you had a good time dispite losing the costume.
